Designed and built by Pat Marlinski of Marlinski Landscape & Stone Work, this beautiful hardscape in Lakewood, NY is a personal oasis in his own backyard.
The project was started and completed in June of 2014. It all began when his daughter was admitted to Cleveland Clinic for three weeks. Pat’s wife also spent the majority of the three weeks in Ohio and he wanted to give them both a special surprise upon their return home; a space that they could enjoy and relax in.
During those few weeks, after completing clients’ work during the day, Pat and his crew would spend a couple hours each evening constructing the patio, pergola and waterfall that would transform his backyard.
The pergola was built with pressure treated lumber and the patio was made with Cambridge Ledgestone XL pavers. The impressive waterfall feature was constructed with Cambridge MaytRx® double sided wall stone, a mixed variety of natural stone surrounds the basin, and the feature is capped with natural sandstone. The waterfall unit itself is an Atlantic Water Gardens 36” LED Colorfalls.
Pat’s wife and daughter were delighted with their backyard retreat when they returned home. It has since become a favorite hangout spot for family and friends. Future plans for the outdoor living space, which already features an above ground pool and stone walkways, include tearing down the wooden deck and constructing a raised stone patio. Pat is a true lover of stone craftsmanship and overtime his backyard has become void of grass. He leaves that to the front lawn which is a beautiful testament to his landscaping skills. Located on a busy section of Route 394, Pat’s own lawn has gotten him many customers over the years. Who knew that his own home would be his best billboard when he moved to the area 15 years ago from Buffalo, NY!
One of Marlinski Landscape & Stone Works more memorable jobs was building a water feature for the owner of Atlantic Water Garden’s Chautauqua Lake house. He was so pleased with the finished product that the job was professionally photographed and included in their global marketing. A highlight of 2015 would be the recently finished double waterfall feature and stream bed for a client in the world-renowned Chautauqua Institution.
If you spend even five minutes talking to Pat Marlinski you will realize that even after almost 40 years in the business, this is his passion; building things that enhance his customers’ outdoor living experiences. It could be a patio, pergola, water feature, firepit, walkway, etc… anything that adds value to their backyard.
The staff at the Stone & Outdoor Living Center is pleased to feature Pat Marlinski’s own backyard as our first Project of the Month.
